Great news: there's been a surge in graduates becoming teachers, boosting recruitment!

What's more, this increase is particularly prominent in maths and science.

New figures from the Department for Education show an 11% increase in teacher trainees compared with last year, which is the biggest rise since the pandemic.

Here are some other highlights from the latest figures:

STEM subjects exceeded recruitment targets by reaching 107% which, compared to last year, is a 47% increase

Maths trainees rose 16% to 2,588, while physics trainees hit 1,086 (which is the highest figure since 2014-15)

Primary teacher recruitment also exceeded targets, reaching 126% of the government's goal

Even modern foreign languages saw improvements, with 93% of targets met.

While this is encouraging news, many schools still face staff shortages and challenges in filling certain roles.

That's where Trust Education can help. We support schools in finding the right teachers and help candidates find roles that match their skills and goals, whether in STEM subjects or across the wider curriculum.
